What Is PocLink?

PocLink makes a hybrid communication device combining traditional walkie-talkie functionality with LoRa mesh networking and satellite connectivity. The result is a handheld radio that can communicate locally without infrastructure and, with a subscription, exchange messages globally via satellite — positioning it between a basic radio and a dedicated satellite communicator like a Garmin inReach.

Range and Performance

In open terrain, LoRa mesh between paired units achieved reliable communication at 8km — significantly beyond standard UHF walkie-talkies. In dense forest, range dropped to approximately 3km with occasional packet loss. When multiple units are present, mesh networking extends range further by relaying.

Satellite Messaging

The satellite subscription (required for global messaging) enables two-way SMS-style messaging anywhere on Earth with a clear sky view. Delivery latency ranged from 30 seconds to 4 minutes in our tests. This is not voice communication — it’s asynchronous text, similar to inReach messaging.

Build Quality

The housing is rubber-armoured with an IP67 rating. After 6 weeks including rain, river crossings, and a drop from 1.2m onto rock, the unit functioned without issue. Battery life on LoRa-only mode exceeded 72 hours on a single charge.

Use Cases
